London born iconic film star Terence Stamp is 70 years old this month. In 1963 Terry O’Neill photographed Terence with super model Jean Shrimpton to produce this powerful photograph.

Terence Henry Stamp was born in Stepney, London, the eldest of five children. His father Thomas Stamp was a tugboat captain in the East End of London. Stamp started work at various advertising agencies in London but deep down longed to be an actor. He made his film debut in 1962 in Peter Unstinov’s film adaptation of Herman Melville’s Billy Budd. This brought him and Academy Award. He then went on to achieve subsequent film credits including The Mind of Mr. Soames, Meetings with Remarkable Men, The Company of Wolves, Legal Eagles, The Sicilian, Wall Street, The Adventures of Priscilla, , Queen of the Desert, The Limey, Star Wars, Superman, The Haunted Mansion, Electra and more recently Valkyrie.

Stamp is also an accomplished writer and author publishing 3 volumes of his memoirs. He received extensive media coverage in the 1960′s for his romances with stars such as Julie Christie, Brigitte Bardot and supermodel Jean Shrimpton. At the time Shrimpton and Stamp were the most photographed couple of Mod London.
